  • What is an AFRINIC/AIS Meeting 
    AFRINIC/AIS holds two open public policy meetings every year in various locations throughout its service region. AFRINIC/AIS Meetings provide a unique opportunity for Internet-related individuals and organisations to gather to discuss the policies governing Internet number resource distribution in the African region, to share technical knowledge, and to attend workshops and tutorials. Attendance is free and open to anyone although there may be a charge for some training courses and workshops. All AFRINIC/AIS-led workshops and courses are free of charge. Remote participation is also facilitated and encouraged. The first AFRINIC/AIS meeting of each year is held during the Africa Internet Summit (AIS). The annual AIS is a regional multi-stakeholder ICT conference which bring together Africa's ICT business and technical community to discuss regional and global ICT issues and challenges. The AIS is organised jointly by AFRINIC/AIS and AfNOG.
  • Why should I attend an AFRINIC/AIS Meeting? 

    • Join discussions about the community defined policies and procedures that AFRINIC/AIS uses to allocate Internet number resources and have your say.

    • Take part in plenary sessions, listen to topical presentations, view demonstrations, attend relevant workshops and tutorials and participate in panel sessions.

    • Meet with other attendees at lunches and informal evening social events to expand your global networks.

  • How and when can I register?
    Registration opens a few months before the meeting. We'll notify the community via this website, the AFRINIC/AIS mailing lists and social media sites. Once registration is open, you'll need to create a login and complete the online registration form on this site. Meeting registration is usually open three months before the meeting. 
  • What about transport and accommodation?
    Each participant is responsible for organising and funding their own transport and accommodation to attend an AFRINIC/AIS Meeting. However, we provide you with a list of accommodation and general information on our website. Fellowships that cover the cost of attending an AFRINIC/AIS Meeting are available for eligible candidates.   
  • Do I need a visa and vaccination certificates?

Depending on the location of the AFRINIC/AIS Meeting, your nationality and your recent travel destinations, you might require a visa/transit visa and vaccination certificates for travel to an AFRINIC/AIS meeting. We will add the latest information on visa requirements to our Travel Kit page. Invitation letters will be provided to all those who need them once they have registered for the meeting.

  • Can I give a presentation or run a workshop? 
    • Every year the AFRINIC/AIS Programme Committee looks for people to: 
    • Participate in the technical conference sessions as a speaker
    • Convene and chair panel sessions on relevant topics
    • Deliver technical tutorials

  • Where can I find out more information about the AFRINIC/AIS Policy Development Process?
    An open, transparent, inclusive bottom-up policy development process governs the way Internet number resources are distributed in Africa. These policies are proposed, discussed and accepted or rejected by the AFRINIC/AIS community using mailing lists and face-to-face discussion during AFRINIC/AIS Meetings. Anyone can participate; you do not have to be an AFRINIC/AIS member to take part in the AFRINIC/AIS Policy Development Process (PDP). AIS'17 Meeting is a one-week event attended by key players in the African and global Internet community. During the week, you’ll find out about current best practices in IP addressing, the latest developments in IPv6 deployment, local and global networking solutions, Internet industry developments, and capacity building and infrastructure development projects throughout Africa and the Indian Ocean. You can also attend workshops and tutorials.
